Recently, Drupal has been strongly embraced at the Denver Public Library becoming the official CMS of choice. Other Colorado Libraries are also making serious commitments to Drupal because of its flexibility, support for XML, taxonomy, low cost of ownership and a great community that provides many modules that support library ambitions with actual working code.

The Creating Communities Web site has been created for the Denver Public Library using Drupal and extended by the Zen theme engine, Apache Solr Search Integration and the eXtensible Catalog (XC) Drupal Toolkit.

July 2010: E-books have hit a significant milestone. In each of the last three months, Amazon reports that sales of books for Kindle have outpaced the sale of hardcover books, and that growth is only accelerating.

In a statement, Amazon says that, “over the past three months, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 143 Kindle books. Over the past month, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 180 Kindle books.”

Inaugurato lo scorso 12 ottobre, “Darwin è l’archivio digitale dei libri del Mulino, pensato per rispondere alle nuove esigenze di ricerca e studio dell’università italiana”. Si tratta di una accurata selezione di testi della casa editrice resi disponibili in rete specificatamente per bibliotecari e ricercatori.
I volumi sono consultabili a partire dall’indice, dal quale si ha accesso ai capitoli, ai paragrafi, agli apparati. Sul singolo titolo e sull’archivio nel suo complesso sono possibili ricerche nei dati bibliografici, ma anche nel testo completo.

The European Union used the world’s biggest book fair to launch the EU Bookshop’s digital library, making more than 50 years of documents in about 20 languages available on the Internet. All documents ever edited on behalf of European Union institutions, agencies and other bodies will be available in the library, the organization said in a news release.

The electronic library is free to individuals, companies and libraries worldwide, which can download documents as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. About 12 million pages — roughly 110,000 EU publications — are available for download, according to officials. The library’s contents will also be a part of Europeana.

The Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale, a Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) Gold Partner in 2008-2009, has agreed to be a Local Tutorial Partner under the DCMI Partnership Program. The Fondazione, in cooperation with DCMI, is organizing a Dublin Core Tutorial on 17 December 2009 in Florence under the title “Dublin Core: building blocks for interoperability”. This Tutorial will take place on the day after the Conference “CULTURAL HERITAGE on line: Empowering users: an active role for user communities” on 15-16 December 2009. DCMI is among the special supporters of this event.

Dopo aver rifiutato una simile offerta alcuni anni fa, ora la Bibliothèque Nationale de France accetta di collaborare con Google per portare avanti l’enorme opera di digitalizzazione già autonomamente intrapresa.
